There is a term/saying going around, you’ve probably heard it by now “unapologetically me” and I’m going to just say it now, don’t think I’m a complete bitch. BARF. JUST BARF. 🤮🤢
Let me tell you why I have an issue with this saying. But first, while I understand that this saying probably came to popularity because people wanted others to know that they were proud of themselves… their faults and imperfections, not following social norms or fitting in what social media expects them to be. It was a way to express to others to be true to yourself without apologizing for who you are….I get it. And actually I stand by the intention of this saying, in fact I’m shouting it from the roof tops- BE TRUE TO WHO YOU ARE.
That being said, this term frustrates the shit out of me because it is so easily twisted. It gives people an excuse to be assholes… let me make it clear, unapologetically
UNAPOLOGETICALLY me is NOT the same as being AUTHENTICALLY me. There is a difference there. And while I think the intention of the saying actually should be changed to ‘authentically me’ that won’t ever happen. Ha!

I am in a constant battle with my son about this topic. Not caring about what others think when it comes to BEING TRUE to who YOU ARE. This is a lesson that took me many, many years (and I still struggle at times with it) to figure out.
If we can all teach our kids to be ‘AUTHENTICALLY you’ instead of ‘UNAPOLOGETICALLY you’, I think the world would be a better place. And that’s all I have to say about that. Keep being your
